When can I download CYWX?
The app is in development for iPhone and iPad. We haven’t announced a release date yet. When it’s ready, the download link will be on the homepage and we’ll post an update in the release notes.
Is CYWX an official weather briefing?
No. CYWX is advisory only. It is not an official source of aviation weather, and it is not endorsed by or affiliated with NAV CANADA, NOAA or any government agency. Obtain an official briefing before every flight.
Where does the weather come from?
Canadian aerodromes are served by NAV CANADA, with the NOAA Aviation Weather Center as an automatic fallback. United States aerodromes are served by NOAA. Aerodrome and runway reference data comes from OurAirports, which is public domain and bundled in the app so it works offline.
Which aerodromes are covered?
Canadian and United States aerodromes. Canada is the focus: several busy flight-training aerodromes that other apps miss entirely are covered because NAV CANADA leads for Canadian sites rather than being a fallback.
Does it work offline?
Reading the last brief does. Observations, forecasts and imagery you have already retrieved stay on the device and open again with no signal, each showing the time it was retrieved. Fetching a new brief needs a connection.
Will I need an account?
No. There is no CYWX account and no sign-in. Your aerodromes and your last brief are stored on your device.
Can I suggest a feature or report a problem?
Please do. Tell us what you were trying to do and what would have helped. For a problem with a reading, include the aerodrome identifier, the time, your device model, iOS version and app version. Only include a screenshot if you’re comfortable sharing everything visible in it.
